Horses

Horses have big heads.

Over fields they trot.

Running miles down the road.

Size of them can be big.

Especially if there’re the size of your car!!!

So they like eating grass but to them it’s like us eating, bread!!!

 Hi All.

Today was due to be the Communion Day for your Class. I am thinking of you all at this time, especially as the weather is so beautiful and I'm sure, with all the planning your parents would put into it, it would have been a wonderful day for you. Never fear, we will re-arrange this day and, like a drink you get after waiting a long time, it will be extra special.

I hope you and your families remain safe. Remember how very important you are to us. Even though we are separated, you are very much in our thoughts. Have a great day and say a little prayer for any who are sick at this time.

With all my best wishes,

 Mr. Fogarty

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend. I have put up some schoolwork for you to attempt this week. As it is a four day week, I am giving you a break from Spellbound, Fuaimeanna agus Focail, Tables and Master Your Maths. Remember that ads often appear before videos on Youtube so please check the Youtube links before showing them to your child.

This would have also been the week running up to your Communion Day. I know you must all be so disappointed about not having your Communion this weekend but your day will come in the future and it will be an even bigger celebration for you all.

I want to wish a big Happy 9th Birthday to Louis for Thursday. I hope you have a great day with your family Louis!

I hope all of your families are keeping well.

Take care,

Mrs. Scanlon.

The Green Genie: p.61 ‘Pets’. Read the ‘red words’. See if you can define each of them and put them into sentences. Try to predict the story. Read the story. Activity A+D p.61 in your copy. Don’t forget to use full sentences and capital letters. Draw a picture of the story. If you don’t have a pet, pretend that you have one and write about it.

Mathemagic: Capacity p. 131 Capacity means how much liquid (water, milk etc….. a container can hold). Start by going over the words ‘more than’, ‘less than’, ‘most’ and ‘least.’ Give this activity a go: http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/19626/activity-144/index.html Then complete no.1 on page 131.

For no. 2 and no. 3, ask an adult to help you as it involves pouring water. Gather the containers needed for the activity. If you don’t have these containers, you can use any other container from home. This involves estimating how many jugfuls and cupfuls of water you think the container can hold and then checking using actual water.

Bua na Cainte: Sa Bhaile – Ceacht 11   p.83 (if you have the book at home or you can access this online) Litriú: Dathanna (Colours). Click on ‘Litriú’ at the bottom of the Bua na Cainte hompage. Then click ‘Dathanna’ and try to spell each of the colours.

Mathemagic: p.132 Ask an adult to help you again. Find an empty container that holds 1 litre of liquid or use a measuring jug. Try activity 1 on page 132. Make your estimate first then check it by seeing if it can’t take the full litre, just holds the full litre or would have been able to hold more than a litre. If you don’t have some of the containers in the pictures, just leave it out or replace it with another container. For Activity 2, you can just write the answers at the bottom of the page. If you have time, try this activity: http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/19626/activity-145/index.html

Bua na Cainte: Ceacht 12   p.84 (if you have the book at home or you can access this online) Litriú: Éadaí (Clothes) + Dathanna (Colours). Click on ‘Litriú’ at the bottom of the Bua na Cainte hompage. Then click ‘Éadaí + Dathanna’ and try to spell each of these sentences.

Science: The Life Cycle of a Butterfly. Read about the butterfly’s life cycle on: https://www.natgeokids.com/ie/discover/animals/insects/butterfly-life-cycle/ You can then watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1S8WzwLPlM Complete Small World page 81. You can access this on my.cjfallon.ie. You can draw your own lifecycle of a butterfly. If you have time, you can find out and write about the Monarch butterfly and the amazing journey it makes. You can make a mini project out of it if you wish.

Music: Make up a song about your pet.

Happy Birthday Louis!!!

The Green Genie: p.64 ‘Copper’ Read the ‘red words’. See if you can define each of them and put them into sentences. Try to predict the story. Read the story. Activity A  p.65 in your copy. Don’t forget to use full sentences and capital letters. Draw a picture of the story. Activity B,C,D p.65.

Mathemagic: p.133 Again, ask an adult to help you with these activities. Measure out or find a container that holds a half a litre (500ml). Then do the activities on half a litre on page 133. Then measure out or find a continer that holds a quarter of a litre (250ml). Do the activities on quarter of a litre on page 133.

To re-enforce quarter and half litres try these if you have time:  http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/19626/activity-146/index.html and http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/19626/activity-147/index.html .

Hi everyone,

Happy May Day. As May is a special month for Mary, you might like to set up a small May altar in your home and pray the Hail Mary to Mary every day. You could include your Communion candle on the altar.

I want to draw your attention to the NEWS section of this webpage. Mr. Fogarty has added a link with some very good activities.

A documentary called Creative Kids which was commissioned by the Creative Ireland Programme will air Sunday 3rd May at 6:30pm on RTÉ One if you wish to view it.

I hope you have a lovely May bank holiday weekend and I will be back with some school work for you on Tuesday.

Take care,

Mrs. Scanlon.

Hi everyone,

I hope your week is going well. I have set up a temporary email account for parents to contact me with any questions you may have. If the children want to show me photos of their work or artwork, you can send them on also. Please don't feel any pressure to send on work. It is entirely up to you.

Kind regards,

Mrs. Scanlon.

We have been asked to direct your attention to the news section of this website where there are some RTE links that may be of use to you.

Parents can now get access to the ‘Bua na Cainte’ programme on the edco website.

 To access the programme:

Go to www.edco.ie/bua

2.   Select the file which suits your computer PC or MAC. Please note that Bua na Cainte only works on PC and Mac computers.

3.   Select the Class Level you require (2nd), and then click on it to start a download of the file.

4.   Once the download has completed, click on the file to install and follow the on-screen instructions.

5.   A Bua na Cainte icon will appear on your desktop. Once you select this icon a login page will open where you will need to enter the details included below.

6.   The login details below can be used for all class levels.

                                      Login: trial

                                    Password: trial

To use:

Chose a topic. We have covered Mé Féin, An Scoil, Bia, Caitheamh Aimsire, An Aimsir (An Fómhar, An Geimhreadh and An tEarrach), Éadaí and Ócáidí Speisialta (Oíche Shamhna and An Nollaig). Hence the children can pick any of these themes for a bit or revision or to play a game or listen to a story, poem or song they loved. On the main topic page children can acces stories (scéal) and poems/songs (rann). If children click on a lesson (ceacht) they can click on the yellow conversation box to get the conversation to come up (and if you hit play and click on the little mouse the words of the conversation will come up). The games console image will show a list of games that children can play. The children are all very used to using Bua na Cainte so they should have no problem using it.

If parents have time, you can test the children in their Spellbound, Fuaimeanna agus Focail, Master Your Maths and tables. The children do their tests at the back of the books and they record their results.

I hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather.

Mrs. Scanlon.

It would greatly benefit your child to read with them every day. You can also cover Maths topics such as money and time with them orally.

I have also suggested that the children keep a diary every day.

I hope you all stay safe and I will see everyone again soon.

Kind reagrds,

Mrs. Scanlon.
